FPT Digital Partners with Businesses to Facilitate the Transition to Green Energy

16/05/2024

On May 15, in Hanoi, FPT Digital collaborated with the Green Development Subcommittee, EuroCham Vietnam, and SP Group Vietnam to host a DxHub event titled "Sustainable Energy Transition: Guidance and Implementation Strategies for the Manufacturing Industry." The event provided insights and experiences worldwide on sustainable energy transition, along with tailored approaches for Vietnamese businesses.

At the COP26 Conference, Vietnam pledged to reach net zero emissions by 2050, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 43.5%. Additionally, the country aims for renewable energy to constitute 70% of its energy development plan by 2050. Industrial parks and manufacturing plants in Vietnam are crucial to achieving this transition.

FPT Digital Consulting Director Le Vu Minh highlighted that Vietnam's industrial production relies heavily on fossil energy sources, leading to significant increases in greenhouse gas emissions as energy demand rises. To meet the commitments made under COP26, transitioning to green energy across all sectors, particularly manufacturing enterprises, is imperative. Mr. Minh also emphasized that green energy enables businesses to accomplish dual objectives - enhancing competitiveness while fulfilling stakeholder standards for manufacturing enterprises, particularly those of significant import markets like the US, Japan, and Europe. This trend is further facilitated by declining operational costs and the increasing affordability of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power in recent years. Furthermore, government incentive policies, such as funding packages, tax breaks, and other incentives, support investment in renewable energy systems, thereby reducing the initial investment cost. Over the long term, businesses embracing green energy will garner greater investor appreciation for their potential to generate sustainable profits and uphold environmental responsibility. Moreover, by better aligning with environmental and social requirements, companies will enhance their corporate brand, leaving a favorable impression on stakeholders ranging from personnel to customers, suppliers, and partners.

Generating green energy through sources like solar power, wind power, or bioenergy offers numerous benefits, yet it demands a substantial initial investment and intricate technical expertise.

Mr. Tran Quoc Hai, Director of Sustainable Energy Conversion at SP Group, highlighted that Vietnamese businesses can procure energy from suppliers like SP Group tailored to their needs, business objectives, and unique circumstances, in addition to investing in their green energy production systems. This alternative, offering greater flexibility and expediency, also enables businesses to conserve time and investment resources.

However, Mr. Stuart Livesey, Co-Chair of the Green Development Subcommittee at Eurocham Vietnam, emphasized that several barriers still hinder energy transition in Vietnam. The first challenge is the issue of asynchronous power grid infrastructure. Inconsistent development of grid infrastructure can hinder the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid system, particularly in remote areas. Secondly, Vietnam's energy market is still in the early stages of transformation. It's crucial to swiftly enhance mechanisms and policies to stimulate and incentivize businesses to adopt renewable energy practices and attract investors to the clean energy sector.

FPT Digital representatives provided several recommendations for manufacturing businesses aiming to integrate energy transition with digital transformation. In essence, digital transformation will enable businesses to manage energy demand effectively and facilitate smart, efficient, and precise energy transition throughout the enterprise value chain. These represent pivotal strategic directions for businesses. When executed in a synchronized and comprehensive manner, they will form a dual transformation strategy, empowering businesses to carve out a unique competitive edge and advance towards sustainable development.
