On April 10, FPT Edu Hackathon's first season with the topic “Internet of Things (loT)” kicked off, offering the prizes worth up to around VND200 million in order to encourage students to develop innovation and use technology to solve real-world problems.
Hackathon is the name of a famous marathon computer-programming competition in the world. The word "hackathon" is a portmanteau of the words "hack" and "marathon". The candidates will develop a technology product in a short time and compete in terms of speed, creativity and products' level of completion. The final products are developed in the 48-hour coding marathon.
The first season is themed “Internet of Things (loT)”. Teams are required to create products which apply Internet of Things (loT) in different fields, help users experience the power of technology.
In FPT Edu Hackathon, candidates will compete on a 3/4-person team. The competitions has 2 groups with separate prize system and each Hackathon Contest has three rounds: the idea round, the elimination round and the final round.
At the idea round, the judges will assess teams based on their ideas and results on Codefights. 26 best teams will be selected to enter the elimination round. In this round, they will attend interviews. 14 teams with the best ideas and most outstanding ability to apply technology will compete in the final round. The final round gathers 14 best teams from 2 groups. They will study and develop their products within 48 hours. Then, they take turns to present and demonstrate their products.
The judges include many experts in the field of information technology. The products are assessed according to the following criteria: idea, creativity and breakthrough (20%); level of completion (50%); application in practice (20%); widespread use (10%). Besides evaluating products, the judges play roles as mentors to provide the help and guidance for teams.
"FPT Edu Hackathon shows the training spirit of FPT Education: students has knowledge of technology and practical ability. We expect our students to solve small problems before deepening their understanding; as well as develop products for a limited time. FPT Edu Hackathon is not only a challenging playing field, but also a special class that we hope our students to sit in on in order to know who they are and learn from their friends," said Phan Truong Lam in charge of technology of the competition.
In addition to passion for technology, teams need to know programming languages, platform, software interface design, teamwork skills, and presentation skills etc.
