On September 15, FPT Japan officially opened the Okinawa Research and Development Centre in the southern part of Kyushu to prompt FPT’s growth in Japan.
FPT Okinawa R&D Centre (FORD) operates as a nearshore centre of FPT in Japan to improve access to advanced technology to change innovative ideas into products and services. Currently FORD has won the first two contracts with a large SI company in Japan and a company operating in the field of technology in Kyoto.
“Japan has policies to promote the development and construction of existing IT infrastructure in Okinawa to connect with Asian countries,” said FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh. “This is an opportunity for FPT to reach a new level as Okinawa authority is very interested in opening a FPT University in Okinawa and promises to help us with infrastructure problems”.
Okinawa is the fifth office of FPT in Japan after more than 10 years of presence in the first sunrise country. At present, FPT Japan has more than 800 employees working directly in five offices in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka and Okinawa and creates indirect jobs for about 5,000 people in Vietnam.
It is expected that by 2017, FPT Japan will reach USD 170 million and by 2020, it will contribute 50% of FPT’s revenue target of USD1 billion from foreign markets.
