FPT Software’s AI-powered apps in medical diagnosis

Two artificial intelligence (AI) research projects of FPT Software, including the detections of Pneumothorax and Kidney and Tumor Dice, received silver medals at Pneumothorax Challenge and KiTS19 Grand-challenge. Pneumothorax Challenge is organized by the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) and The American College of Rheumatology (ACR), with 1,475 teams.

To get this results, the development team conducted various in-depth studies on medical problems; coordinated with some local and foreign doctors and hospitals and adopted AI applications to diagnose diseases. At the same time, the team also applied its algorithm on the large data set of SIIM and ACR during the competition.

FPT Software’s AI-powered application in detecting Kidney and Tumor Dice was the only Vietnamese project to reach the final at KiTS19 Grand challenge, which is organized by the University of Minnesota (USA) and University of Melbourne (Australia), with 847 teams.

In FPT Software’s algorithm, the precision of results in detecting kidney and tumor diseases reaches 73%, kidney is 93.9% and cancer is 56.6%. Both of the projects are built on Residual Capsule, an AI algorithm that is researched, invented and developed by FPT Software. FPT Software is filing an international patent application for this algorithm.

It is expected that the two results of the researches will be added to the hospital and healthcare system in Vietnam and across the globe. In the future, FPT Software will expand this research model into other projects in industries such as finance, banking, retail, customer care etc. in order to make AI a key sector which can promote the development speed of the company.
