"In order that an organization can develop, we need to look for leverage points. Everyone likely wants to become a member of a successful team," stated Rector of FPT University (FU) Dam Quang Minh.
FU Rector shared with Chungta about his concerns after a year of operating FPT Education (FE).
- After taking the position of FE’s “captain”, you restructured the organization, promoting globalization on education, establishing an internal communication channel for students and staff etc. According to you, which move is decisive and has impact on the development of FE?
- Restructuring is a collective decision with the participation of many people. Communication is also being implemented by many FE leaders. They originate from the common desire to build a united and strong organization. We cannot understand each other if we do not spend time together, this is a basic principle.

- How were the roles of blocks under FE changed after the restructuring?
- The blocks are still playing critical roles in the common development in the model of wealthy people and strong country, strong individual and strong organization.
In terms of revenue, profit and the number of students, FU, FPT Academy International (FAI) and FPT Polytechnic have made the largest contributions. Other blocks also have strong competition to become FE’s mainstays.
The previous leaders paved the way. Hopefully, with a larger team of younger people thirsty for success, the scale will be enlarged. And it is the desire of everyone from staff to management.
- How is the spirit reflected in enrollment and other activities in the first 6 months?
- After the first 6 months, FE’s enrollment is increased by 30% compared with 2014. Enrollments of FU, FPT Academy International and FPT Polytechnic continue to make good progresses and in turn reach important milestones. FAI, FPT Polytechnic, FSB and FPT University Global Office also enter channels powerfully. This year, FE expects that the enrollment activity will get high results.
FE awarded 7 units which had completed 6-month plan. But it is the most remarkable thing that FE is forming new blocks for active development. This is the foundation for growth in the long term.
- This year, the Ministry of Education and Training held the 2-in-1 national exam. How does it affect FU’s admission?
- I think that it is too soon to give assessment. However, the blocks of FE are quite active in enrollment. Everything will be 2 months slower and FE is getting positive results.
- Which plans do you make to hit the goal?
- Personally, I always find a way to support enrollment staff. Indeed, the team is very trying at 120-150% capacity. Thanks to those efforts, we have got recent results.
- Enrollment depends much on the employment rate for graduates. This figure of FU pigs 98% per year. What do you think about the advantage?
- The daily efforts and contributions of teachers have been recognized by students and this is the big difference with other organizations. Students’ achievements are gained by efforts of themselves, lecturers and staff. I believe that this is the core value of any university.
- In four years, nearly 600 students have joined FPT. Currently, 400 people out of them continue to work here. How is FU engaged in solving HR problem of the Corp?
- 30%-40% of IT graduates to work for FPT is a reasonable ratio and it is necessary to maintain this. In particular, this proportion is even higher at foreign branches in Singapore, Japan etc. Graduates from FE will best suit FPT Software and FPT IS as training programs are developed by employees of these companies.
However, IT labor market is very effervescent and competitive. We must accept the rule of invisible hand.
- FE is fostering “desire for change”. On this journey, what message do you want to send?

FE includes 5 blocks, 2 institutes and 1 company: FPT University, FPT Polytechnic, FPT high school, FPT University Global Office (FGO), FPT Academy International (FAI), FPT Arena, FPT Jetking and FPT Greenwich, FPT School of Business (FSB), FPT Technology Research Institute (FTRI), FPT Technology International Creativity Company ( FTICO).
FE has experienced 16 years of formation and development. From 100 Aptech students with 20 employees in 1999, now FE has up to 16,000 students, nearly 1,500 lecturers and staff in three regions.
