akaMES of FPT Software helps VinFast reduce investment costs by 70%

In 2019, VinFast cooperated with a Korean partner to establish a joint venture to manufacture batteries with international standards. Three assembly lines for electric motorcycle batteries are carried out by Korean contractors with the production management system (MES) attached along. During the operation, the system revealed many problems such as the inflexible customization and scalability, and the development cost was quite high. Meanwhile, the two parties have difficulty in communication due to language barrier, culture and operating method of the system differences, etc.

In 2020, when Covid-19 broke out, it was much harder for the team to have the support from Korean experts. Despite the effort to work online, they could not solve all arising problems, and the stages that needed support.

In that context, VinFast aims to find domestic partners to build a production management system with full of basic features, but must be flexible and highly customizable, deployed on multiple platforms. When approaching VinFast, instead of providing solutions with available features, experts of FPT Software have studied the internal needs and problems of VinFast to consult, design and develop features according to "metering shoe" style with high customization and optimal cost.

From mid-2020, the production operating system akaMES developed by FPT has been deployed on VinFast's Lithium battery production line. After only 3 months of implementation, the system has helped Vinfast reduce 70% of investment fees compared to before.

According to VinFast, “akaMES is able to operate flexibly and expand, especially customized for different production lines and stages. At the same time, the interface is user-friendly, able to interact with all other devices on the line, collect data and provide real-time information, etc.”

In the near future, Vinfast plans to expand the akaMES application on 3-5 production lines at the Lithium Battery Plant.
