Mondelez saves millions of dollars by using smartphones in sales operation

Mondelez Kinh Do Vietnam (Mondelez) developed a sales platform system on personal mobile phones in collaboration with FPT Software, enabling enterprises to save millions of dollars each year. 

Since 2013, Mondelez has been an early adopter of technology for business operations management, providing a dedicated tablet for the sales force. With over 2,000 employees distributing items to 230,000 points of sale nationally, firms must replace a series of tablets every two years to keep up with the rapid pace of technology development, which consumes a significant budget. Meanwhile, as the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device - using personal devices for work) trend continues to grow, Vietnamese people have been increasingly resorting to smartphone applications for work. Additional tablet devices become redundant, making them difficult to store and cumbersome when staff travels long distances. Enterprises are constantly on the lookout for ways to save money and increase production, assisting teams in optimizing operational efficiency. 

A sales system on smartphones by FPT Software 

"With over 230 SKUs, it is critical to automate the distribution of product groups to each client category. Mondelez's goal is to create not only a mobile sales ecosystem but also to incorporate smart sales to help personnel." Mondelez Kinh Do Vietnam's Distribution Management Director, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dung, stated. 

Mondelez and the long-term partner FPT Software (an FPT member), pioneered the application of technology by developing a sales platform that works across all platforms, including personal phones. The system assists sales employees in optimizing sales by allowing for the scheduling of meetings with agents who have an acceptable travel schedule. When placing an order, the platform proposes additional possible goods based on the distribution agent's order frequency and demand, preventing omissions in the exchange. 

Orders received are synced across the system, allowing accounting and warehouse divisions to coordinate the processing of items, billing, and delivery. Operating efficiently and unifying data enables relevant departments within the business to perform efficiently. 

Mondelez quickly constructed a transformation platform on the back of the distribution management system previously "adapted" by FPT Software. Enterprises have also pioneered the ‘Cloud move’ in 2019, boosting data synchronization, security updates, and real-time multi-device communication. 

According to Mr. Nguyen Tri Thai, Director of FPT Software's DMS Solution Center, the issue stems from the disparate number of devices spread throughout regions. Each device type utilizes a unique connection wave depending on the precision of the map placement capability, the strength and weakness of the underlying network, and other factors that can result in significant differences in customer data. "We tweaked numerous factors to double the phone's accuracy," Thai explained. 

Notably, the platform developed by FPT Software enables the separation of professional and personal activities, thereby ensuring user privacy while maximizing information security for organizations. 

When in work mode, business data and photographs of customers and orders are uploaded immediately to Mondelez's Cloud-based system. As a result, businesses continue to adhere to operational procedure criteria, assisting in creating a comprehensive customer portrait, thereby increasing sales and ensuring the business's sustainability. 

"At the same time, the system can integrate artificial intelligence applications for image recognition, voice recognition, and data analysis in business and human environments. By increasing multi-channel sales, the ecosystem will assist firms in making critical decisions while also promoting efficiency and competitiveness, " added Mr. Thai. 

When evaluating the sales platform developed by FPT Software, a Mondelez representative stated that the platform had enabled Mondelez to save several million dollars per year in operating costs while still meeting public needs. Thousands of employees has been using it concurrently. Additionally, the representaive emphasized that Mondelez's primary objective for 2022 is to implement a global automated order request solution using FPT Software's AI technology. This is also a critical step for enterprises to boost their operations via technology, which is projected to accelerate Mondelez Kinh Do Vietnam's growth in the coming years.
