Big companies discuss on investment opportunities between Vietnam and other APEC

Luncheon cum Dialogue between Vietnam and APEC member economies titled “Vietnam: Thriving in a Changing World" was held on November 8 within the framework of the APEC 2017. At the event, FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh said that FPT aims at customers who draw up plans for digital transformation and pay attention to Vietnam.

A dialogue on investment opportunities between Vietnam and other APEC member economies recently took place on November 8 within the framework of the APEC 2017. The representatives from FPT and 10 big companies from the U.S., Japan and Germany etc. attended the session.

The event was attended by Mr. Pham Dai Duong, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; Mr. Do Thang Hai, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade; Mr. Huynh Duc Tho, Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee; and representatives from leading companies including UPS, WEF, FPT, VinaCapital, Zuellig Pharma, Agoda Outside, ExxonMobil, UL, GE, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., Mitsui&Co, Mizuho Bank, Dow, Cypress Holdings and PwC.

The representatives discussed a number of topics of Interest such as the importance of stable investment environment; the role of a strong cooperative relationship between government and business; Value and direction of development of logistics, health care, online travel; transboundary exchange of data; and digital transformation in Vietnam etc.

“For investors, business environment is the most important thing. According to World Bank, Vietnam has increased its ranking by 14 notches in terms of Doing Business index. The economy has jumped up by 5 notches in terms of the Global Competitive Index according to WEF. In Vietnam, many business conditions have been eliminated to make life easier for enterprises. The Ministry of Industry and Trade removed a staggering 675 out of 1,243 business conditions,” said Mr. Do Thang Hai, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade.

Mr. Pham Dai Duong, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology affirmed that the government would support enterprises and is deeply concerned about the private sector. The Government recently set up Private Economic Development Research Board chaired by Mr. Truong Gia Binh, FPT Chairman.

FPT Truong Gia Binh was the moderator of the session.

In addition to the investment environment, the participants discussed technology and digital transformation. Technology is the foundation for developing and optimizing production and business activities in many areas such as logistics, tourism, healthcare, etc. "Technology will be the key to the future development of Vietnam. Take advantage of this opportunity to develop technology platforms and elevate the country's status", said WEF Director Philipp Rosler.

"Digital is one of the top pillars. Five years ago, GE invested heavily in digital technology to help the industry run better. We welcome all of the businesses here, but we especially put emphasis on the cooperation with FPT - a giant in Vietnam has great influence in the world," CEO of GE ASEAN Wouter Van Wersch said at the event.

FPT is also the only ASEAN firm to deploy Predix solutions with GE for clients globally. "The digital economy started to be discussed at Davos 2016, but FPT started to do the digital transformation - related things seven years ago," said FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors. FPT said. Mr. Binh also added: "One of our important directions is to partner with the world's leading companies to offer digital transformation services. The presence at APEC is an opportunity for FPT to meet them".
